Dan CoyleKCRiverFest fan favorite Dan Coyle returns to KC as a stop on “The Strange Death of Jim Morrison Tour” of Spring/Summer 2010. His sophomore effort, “Random Thoughts and Incomplete Sentences,” is a “beautiful collection of thoughtful lyrics and spellbinding guitar.” After quietly writing songs all winter, Dan is looking forward to recording his upcoming album. broadBANDThe band is broadBAND, and as the clever name implies, all the members are women. As expressed by the September edition of The Entertainer ”’The gimmick’ of having all women in a band is rendered a ‘gimmick’ only because of the dearth of female back-up musicians in the music industry, as a whole — tons of female singers but not so many gal drummers, guitarists, and fiddle players.” But the “gimmick” wouldn’t work if the music was just average — and apparently it isn’t with this group as all of the members of broadBAND have impressive credentials. Individually they have opened for all the biggies in country music from George Jones and Dwight Yoakham to Sara Evans. Some of their songs have been released by major label and independent artists and they have even sang the National Anthem at a handful of televised Nascar Races. Powerhouse Lead singer Shelly Bush, jaw dropping lead guitarist Paula Jo Taylor, sensational rockin’ lead guitarist Beth Garner and amazing fiddle player Suzanne Rohrer are held together by the rock solid rhythm section of Erin Holiman on bass guitar and Anita Hill on drums. All the ladies are fine singers and the lustrous harmonies are exceptional. Not only is everyone an outstanding musician they are entertainers and everywhere they perform they leave their audience captivated. Visit the broadBAND Web site. |

Bram WijnandsIn July 1991, the well-seasoned palate of the Kansas City Jazz community was treated to a style of entertainment not seen since the days of Count Basie and Jay McShann shaking the walls at the Hey Hey Club. Bram Wijnands had just swept into town from his native Holland. After a one-week sell-out gig at the City Light Jazz Club with Richard Ross, everyone was buzzing about his remarkably fresh new talent with hard-driving swing and enthusiastic style of delivery. He has performed with Jazz-artists Slide Hampton, Gene Connors, Jos Moons, Richard Ross and Deborah Brown, then immediately embarked with his trio on a tour throughout eastern Europe, Russia, western Europe and the United States. Performances included the Kansas City Blues and Jazz Festival, 18th & Vine Heritage Festival and the Topeka Jazz Party. Other performances included New York Jazz-clubs, New Orleans, Lake of the Ozarks (with Lynn Zimmer) and last but not least: Carnegie Hall. After the Carnegie Hall concert he received a proclamation from Mayor Cleaver’s office in 1998 stating him as Kansas City’s Ambassador of Swing and making April 6 ”Bram Wijnands Day” in Kansas City.
